So you've bought your Kindle Fire... now what?

Best Amazon Kindle Fire Apps

Please don't forget to share your experiences, opinions, suggestions to make this app list better!

Whether it’s a television, MP3 player, Blu ray player or a Kindle Fire, the hardware is worthless without content. When it comes to iPhones, iPads, android tablets or Amazon Kindle Fire(s), content comes in the form of or is delivered via Apps (applications). There are thousands of them, but which ones are most useful and therefore most popular? Below we have categorized the different Apps available for the Kindle Fire. It’s anything but complete. If you think we have left out an app that deserves to be in the list of Best Kindle Fire Apps, please don’t hesitate to let us know by commenting below!

The idea is not to provide a list of all the android Apps available, the idea is to list all the Best Kindle Fire Apps!

The main categories of Kindle Fire Apps we have included are as follows

  1. Social Networking apps
  2. Music apps
  3. Video/movies/TV shows apps
  4. Games apps
  5. Productivity apps
  6. Sports apps
  7. Cooking apps

This is still not complete: still working on it, in the meantime, please feel free to include your suggestions

Social Networking Kindle Fire Apps

  1. Seesmic - post to Twitter, Facebook, Chatter, Google Buzz, YouTube, TwitPic, Plixi, yFrog etc using a single app: post status updates to multiple accounts at once, Search and receive notifications
  2. IMO Instant Messenger - Instant messaging on Skype, Facebook Chat, Google Talk, MSN, ICQ, AIM, Yahoo, Jabber, and Myspace Chat (have not personally used all these services with these two apps)

Productivity/Business Apps

  1. Astrid Task/Todo – to-do list and task manager: features reminders, syncs with Google Tasks
  2. CalenGoo - $5.99: as the name suggests, a Calender that syncs with the Google calendar
  3. Evernote - “Capture It, Organize It, Find It”: if you can see it or think of it, Evernote helps you remember it! Search and create new notebooks: auto-synchronize notes with PC, Mac and Web, sync with Facebook
  4. LogMeIn Ignition - this is expensive at $29.99 however, can be extremely useful. Lets you remotely access your home or office computers (PC/Mac) with your Kindle Fire.
  5. Exchange By TouchDown Key - a little expensive at $12.99 (sale price at the time of writing) but useful in that it lets you connect to your company’s Exchange Server to access e-mail, calendars, contacts, and more. There are some advanced features like use of 3DES encryption, working with a variety of e-mail servers and remote wipe.
  6. Quickoffice Pro - $9.99 (sale price at the time of writing). With this app, you can create, view, or edit Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files and also access Google Docs, Dropbox, and Box etc. Can also be used for PDF files. NY Times said “Top 10 Must-Have Android Apps”, so it must be good
  7. OfficeSuite Pro 5 - $9.99: The main difference between this and Quickoffice Pro is that with OfficeSuite Pro, you can only open and view PPT files and can’t create or edit them.
  8. Wolfram|Alpha - I doubt you’re going to find anybody else listing this as one of the Best Kindle Fire Apps! You’ll see I’m not crazy if you start using it. “It’s the first step toward a real artificial intelligence” – Gregory Chaitin, IBM emeritus computer scientist. Need I say more? Use it to do calculus and differential equations, astronomy, look up stocks, populations, odds of poker hands or even calculate calories in your meal with this App.
  9. Calculator Ultimate Lite - In addition to basic arithmetic calculations, you can also do other complex equations, conversions, matrix operations, trigonometric functions, logarithms, differential calculus etc. etc. Some of us will surely find these ultra-useful!
  10. Pageonce Money & Bills - All-in-one app to organize your bank accounts, bills and utility payments, credit card accounts, loans, insurance or even for tracking your mobile minutes, text and data usage. ‘Online security’ should be the first thing comes to your mind when you talk about apps like this. Apparently, app meets the highest standards in Internet security and is TRUSTe, VeriSign, and McAfee verified.

Sports Apps

  1. ESPN ScoreCenter - latest scores, stats, and news (MIXED reviews on this App even though we listed it as one of the Best Kindle Fire Apps)
  2. Yahoo! Sportacular - Power and depth of Yahoo! Sports: keep track on scores and receive alerts for your favorite teams, stats, current standings, news etc.

Movies and TV shows related Apps

  1. Netflix - one app that doesn’t need any explanation: lets you resume watching from where you left off on your TV or computer
  2. Hulu Plus (Kindle Fire Edition) - watch Current Hit Shows (e.g. House, Gossip Girl, Grey’s Anatomy, South Park + other programs from ABC, Fox, Comedy Central, MTV, NBC, Warner Bros. Television Group etc.); Classic Series (e.g. Saturday Night Live, The X-Files, The A-Team, Arrested Development etc.) or hundreds of Critically Acclaimed Movies
  3. Flixster - Access show times, box office information, and purchase tickets, find movie titles, MPAA ratings, read user ratings and critic reviews from Rotten Tomatoes
  4. IMDb Movies & TV - over 2 million movie and TV titles, search for movie show times by movie or theater, Login and rate movies: rate movies from 1 (awful) to 10 (great) – this can be a really fun feature ;)

eReading Apps

Considering that the name of our site is Best eReader, it would be highly inappropriate to leave out eBook reading Apps!

  1. Read It Later Pro - Lets you save online materials for later offline reading: you see something read-worthy, but you don’t have the time right now? Load your Kindle Fire with material to read on that long flight! As NY Times, Business Week, and TechCrunch described it, it’s a “DVR for the Web”; no further explanation necessary!

Miscellaneous Apps

  1. The Weather Channel for Android - there are a few complaints, but it does the job!
  2. My-Cast Weather - Probably a more powerful weather app, pricey at $3.99 (for a weather app). You get access to charts, maps, and other diagrams that convey a variety of conditions and factors

This page on Best Kindle Fire Apps is still not complete. Still working on it and expect it to be completed by the end of the week! Thanks for your patience.
